The blustery cold that sweeps in from the north has an awful impact on players in getting their workouts going, throwing the long toss, and getting their mound work in before games begin in 2 months—NOT.
It’s 65 degrees, sunny, with nary a cloud in the sky!
You see, this SoCal weather is perfect for all baseball players to get their work in daily. The winds have been a little higher than normal, but this isn’t a biting wind that brings the temperature down 10 degrees cooler. It’s warm winds that are bringing potential fire weather into town.
This time of year is very busy. Finals for most kids begin next week, and only a few high school games will occur after next weekend. Family starts to either come to town or leave town for vacation. There are hundreds of things going on. However…
The high school/college season is right around the corner. Coaches at all levels have high expectations for players to be ready, even youth players. But, if you fail to take care of your arm and body, you’re an injury away from losing everything you worked up to in getting ready for the upcoming season.
Here at Throwzone Academy, we’re hosting a holiday training camp for both older players and a separate youth training camp, continuing the work and progress players have made over the past few months. This 2–2.5 hours of training prepares players’ bodies for the rigors of a long baseball season and also gets their arms in shape for all the work required for the upcoming season.
Throwing during this “down” time is an absolute must whether you are participating in our holiday camps or not. It’s an absolute must to be throwing 3–5 times per week, which includes arm care, sprint work, and the long toss at least 1–2 days.
Once practice season picks up right after New Year’s, you have about 5 weeks to get yourself ready for the long 12-week season, then summer, fall, and winter; it’s neverending in warm weather states.

Have a very Merry Christmas and holiday season as well as a happy New Year!
Until next time,
Jim
