Tis the Season to Throw Harder
Wait, I just had Thanksgiving dinner and now it’s December? What in the name of pumpkin pie just happened? Life just never slows down for anyone these days.
Students were off last week and now they have 3 weeks left before the holidays start up, which in and of itself is truly incredible. Life doesn’t stop, baseball tournaments as well as high school winter games are in full force, it is a balance between enjoying the holiday and festive spirit and being able to continue with training whether that is throwing, hitting or just practicing 2-3 times a week. Most young players will train 12 months out of the year, holiday season is for about 1 month, so what to do?
Growing up in Southern California, the weather is picture perfect most of the time in December. Today was clear and about 75 degrees. In SoCal, we have the benefit of that type of weather 12 months a year. In other parts of the country, we can’t get outside for almost 3 months due to frigid weather and show.
I would throw a baseball against my garage, or the mattress butted up against the garage door, for hours on end. This was an every day occurrence that also included shooting basketball shots every day as well. Since there was nothing close to the type of everyday items that encompass our lives now, cell phone, video games, and every new electronic device out there, playing sports was an everyday occurrence. My friends would come over and we would have big wiffle ball games 4 times a week. Little did we know that we were training ourselves to attain a skill set that would prove to improve our baseball, basketball, and football game down the road.
For me it was training that got me to attain a baseball scholarship to my dream school, the University of Arizona. I am sure if the available training that affords us today was available back in the 1970’s, I would have lived at that facility.
And it is cool to see that there are a group of about 5-7 high school kids ‘live’ at my facility, training daily, who I have no doubt will play baseball in college. That have found their calling in life, baseball is their girlfriend, and I am so proud to provide that opportunity to players on an everyday basis. Kids of all ages come in to train and better themselves on an individual basis through our group training.
Throwzone Academy is somewhat like my baseball playground for players to come in and improve their throwing, their conditioning, and a place to gain some hope for their future on the baseball diamond. I have tried to take some of the awesomeness of my childhood in regards to baseball and bring it here to the year 2024/2025.
With that being said, we are offering our Holiday Training camp beginning Monday, December 23 for 2 weeks, click on link below:
These are for 2 different age groups and there are still some available slots left for our older camp, but maybe only 3-4 left, and there are about 7-8 slots available for our 9-12 y/o age group. Reach out to Jim today at 661-644-2147 for more information, or throwzone20@gmail.com
Talent is a requirement for any team that a player is involved with. However, talent needs to be developed over a period of time, it needs to be nurtured on a daily basis, and talent starts to show itself during regular development. All of this is provided here at Throwzone. If you have a desire to be the best, and if you have a work ethic that no one can dare keep up with you, if you truly want to be the best pitcher, player, and so forth then it is only time before you see the results that you want. It is done, you have images in your mind and the only thing to do is go out an development your talent on a daily basis. Only then will you be able to truly become the best player that you want to be.
I promise you I have seen this many times, and those are the only requirements needed. Work ethic, desire and development.
Let’s get after it!
Until next time…
Jim
