Ringing In The New Year With Baseball On My Mind
And so here we are living in 2025. The holidays have passed us again and promises of good fortune, lost weight and resolutions still resonate in our thoughts and minds.
How did we get here and what is next?
We all know how we got here and in this day and age, it certainly isn’t because we did nothing but watch Hallmark Christmas movies throughout the year. We all worked hard, I personally worked as hard this year then I ever had, and I know that most of us would say the same thing. But what is the difference between Jan. 1, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025?
Our Summer and Holiday training this past year was our most attended and word is out how much of a difference it makes in player development.
But for many, the question isn’t what have you done for me lately as much as what WILL you do for my son to get him to his goals and dreams, and I would expect nothing more from myself in assisting them.
One important area we talked to our 35+ players in our just completed Holiday Camp was about taking care of the little things. Focusing on small changes in what they are doing in order for bigger changes to be realized down the road.
One of the best theories into what we do at Throwzone is part of an equation called the Chaos Theory. In simplifying its definition to what we do in baseball is that small changes create bigger changes down the ‘chain’ of what we are doing with pitchers. The story goes that butterflies in California create tornado like conditions in the Middle East, that small incremental changes such as a little flutter of air from a butterfly turns into incrementally greater gusts of winds as it moves farther away from the initial change.
The Chaos Theory is making small movement patterns down the chain of the body and how it affects larger body parts to create power from the ground to the release of the ball. This is the summary of what we are doing while working with players.
The other topic during camp was for players to understand how the process of what we are doing yields the type of results that we desire. If a hitter crushes 3 balls in a game that results in 3 outs then most players look solely on the .000 batting average of the game when in fact the swings he took were exactly what the focus is in his training. Those 3 balls are not always going to get caught, in fact the probably turn into 3 doubles in the next game. That is what focusing on the process is about and letting the results be whatever they may be.
We constantly have to remind players that they are doing a terrific job throwing strikes during a time when the radar gun is on, yet they get upset when they don’t throw a record velocity on every throw. Getting players to focus on the process and not the results will ultimately reward them in ways that they never expect.
All of our training classes focus on the process. There is a reason for the class structure we operate, start on the small things and then build them up to mound work. Have them stay in the moment and focus on the task at hand, the process, and the results will be there for them.
On a different note, for our 14 years and older players who have worked with us for a period of time, you may start to think about your son joining us for our 7:30pm advanced training classes. This advanced class runs throughout the fall, winter and spring months. The focus is a little different than our 4pm and 6pm class in that we are working on more arm strengthening through core training and weighted ball protocols. If this is something you are interested then reach out to me and I can explain more in how that class works.
Over the past 5 spring seasons, we turned out 8-All League Pitchers, including 2 Pitchers of the Year, who the year before were JV players. We have had those type of results. We can help you get to that level.
I will make a first announcement that our Summer Training at Throwzone will start after the first week of June and run for 8 weeks. This is our most important time of the year for pitchers and throwers in building up velocity all the while working on mobility and staying healthy. Our first public announcement will be towards the end of April but I wanted to have you hear it first.
Spring time is here and classes will be filling up fast. Contact me today to book your time. Tryouts have already started in some leagues and high school practices are gearing up to be ready for February 15 start. Bring your child in today for classes and see how our processes work and wait for the results you child desires.
Until next time,
Jim
P.S. Classes have some availability for this upcoming spring and summer season. If you have a desire to pitch in your rec, travel or high school team, then being a part of our daily training classes will get you the results you want!!!
